DIGNIDAD MURAL
A Mural in Honor of Our Roots, Our Struggles, and Our Legacy.
DIGNITY is more than paint on a wall. It is a storybook of our community, a history lesson written in color, and a living testimony to the resilience, culture, and legacy of Mexican, Indigenous, and Tejano people in Waco and beyond.
This mural is told in three parts:

Carried by Vision, Created by Hands, Belonging to All.
This project was brought to fruition through the vision and dedication of Armando Arvizu, whose leadership carried this dream forward. It was painted by the gifted hands of Jesús Rivera, commissioned by the César Chávez Neighborhood Association, and supported by the City of Waco, and most importantly, by you — our community.
This mural is not just ours — it belongs to every child who will walk by and ask, “Who are these people?” It belongs to every elder who remembers the voices and stories represented here. It belongs to the future, as a reminder that our roots are deep, our struggles are real and our legacy endures.
LEGACY BEYOND THE WALL.
A Living Chronicle Beyond the Paint. This section of the archive honors those whose names and contributions could not be painted on the mural itself. Though space on the wall is limited, memory knows no boundaries. Each figure listed here belongs to the same story of roots, struggle, and dignity. Their legacy extends beyond the wall — carried forward in our voices, our classrooms, and our community.
